On behalf of all QUALITYstarsNY participating programs and the children and families they serve, we would like to thank you for your support of QUALITYstarsNY, New York’s early childhood quality rating and improvement system. Since statewide implementation began in 2010, QUALITYstarsNY has supported hundreds of early childhood programs to improve their quality and offer the best possible early learning experiences to the children and families they serve.
We are excited to release the results of the first-ever comparative analysis of performance data on programs participating in QUALITYstarsNY. QUALITYstarsNY: New York State's Bold Step to Ensure Access to Excellence in Early Childhood Education details the results of a three-year assessment of almost 200 programs participating in QUALITYstarsNY. An astonishing 84% of programs that participated improved their quality, based on a series of standards developed by New York’s leading early education researchers and experts. We also saw a 65% increase in the number of programs earning four and five stars, indicating an exceptional level of quality and service for New York’s youngest residents, especially those in low-income families and underserved communities.
Due to funding constraints, QUALITYstarsNY currently serves less than 3% of child care programs across the state. Governor Cuomo’s proposed allocation of $5 million will allow us to continue to support the nearly 600 center, family and public school-based programs currently participating, as well as add a new Start with Stars component to assist programs that have health and safety violations. With every additional dollar of funding, QUALITYstarsNY can have a profound impact on programs in more communities across the state.
We thank you for supporting us in our efforts to provide the best possible futures for children by championing New York State’s investment in QUALITYstarsNY.
